Rihanna has released a music video for her latest single “Cheers” the same day Beyoncé’s “1+1” was premiered. I am not sure whether this was intentional, I did see Rihanna tweet something about there being an unexpected delay pushing the video back for release by a day or so.
Admittedly, at first I did not like this song on “Loud,” but I grew to really enjoy it. I think it was the Avril Lavigne backing in the chorus that kind of irritated me. In fact, the song is somewhat a Friday anthem for me in preparation for the weekend, “cheers, to the freakin’ weekend, I’ll drink to that, yeahh yeahh!” it really gets me in a good mood.
In short this music videos features cuts of concert footage from throughout her “Loud Tour” in varying countries throughout the world. I do not like when artists do this. I think it’s lazy there is no creativity in replaying gig footage. However, she does show personal footage of her relaxing and having fun with her friends and entourage and this gives it more of a personalised feel. As per my previous post I am loving seeing her rock her natural hair.
Rihanna genuinely seems like a fun loving, cool chick and this footage definitely alludes to that. I honestly believe that this video was made purely for the pleasure of the Rihanna Navy (her fan base), she even shouts their name at the end of the video. I really love the gratitude and love that Rihanna shows her fans, and how interactive she is with her Navy on Twitter. Lady Gaga is equally active on Twitter with her fans. This really makes me love those two artists even more.
*Side eyes Beyoncé* Girl you better get on Twitter, don’t give us none of that, ‘oh I’m too big for Twitter, I don’t have time,’ business neither. If you’re not careful the Rihanna Navy and Gaga’s Little Monsters are going to snatch your diva crown. I’m just saying…
I’ve got to keep it real and tell y’all that I was looking forward to watching the debut of Rihanna’s “Cheers” much more than Beyoncé’s “1+1.” I truthfully was expecting to see something really party, fun and young with celebrity cameos galore drinking up at a bar/club with this video, but sadly I witnessed something totally different. I have come to expect a lot from Rihanna over the years solely for the fact that her videos are always something special to watch. Rihanna’s fashion and beauty style is so unique and her music videos always showcase this to the max, she really pushes creative boundaries. With that being said, it is a fun, light video but I think Rihanna could have really gone HAM on the visuals to this drinking, weekend anthem and took the track to another level.
Let’s just hope that the release of Nicki and Rihanna’s “Fly” music video at the MTV VMAs is going to feed my creative desire that “Cheers” didn’t deliver on.
