Kanye West and Jay-Z have released the video for their first single off their new collaborative album titled “Watch The Throne” released on August 8, 2011.
The single is titled “Otis” after Otis Redding who’s soulful voice is sampled throughout the track. Otis Redding is most famously known outside of the African American community for his track “The Dock Of The Bay (Sittin’ On).”
“Otis” is a very unique sounding track and when I listen to it I can’t help but bob my head and tap my feet. It is an excellent first single selection for the northern summer, but then again would you doubt it wouldn’t be, with the two biggest names in hiphop behind it’s creation?
The song depicts the glamorous champagne life that both artists are accustomed to. The music video is equally as indulgent with Yeezy and Jigga goin all Pimp My Ride on a sleek black Maybach R2M by the looks of things, and doing donuts in a warehouse precinct armed with beautiful women.
As an Australian I can definitely see a lot of American patriotism in this video with a lot of red, white and blue colours and the featured US flag draped over the entire side of the building. Both are both wearing blue and white clothing and the buildings are blue. Quite timely considering the recent US market crash.
I will do a full album review soon, all in all I LOVE the track and the light-hearted, glam, video to match. What do you think? Comment below!
