Nicki Minaj has stated she wants to be more relatable to her audience so she’s toned down her normally ‘out there’ cartoon character appearance to help achieve this. It appears it wasn’t just because her wig stylist recently quit.
Minaj had this to say about her new natural look:
“I knew that I was about to start doing covers of magazines and I wanted a more relatable look. I knew that I was about to launch a clothing line and I want women to know that I’m just a regular woman and I’m not some weirded-out character all the time. I made that conscious effort to tone it down and to try new things. And when I started seeing what my hair looked like, I just fell in love. I was just like, ‘oh my gosh where has this been all my life?’ Because even my fans went crazy, I feel like the whole world went crazy. It felt like I took off this mask — it didn’t feel like that to me — but to the world it’s almost like,‘oh now we see the real her.’ It was weird.” -Necole Bitchie
I first saw the new Nicki Minaj look on American Idol – where it was clear Queen Barb was rocking her natural locks. Many people didn’t realise that Nicki’s natural hair is actually really long and healthy. She sensibly uses wigs to achieve a diversity of colour and lengths without damaging her natural hair.
Minaj also has the money to pay for a stylist to help her achieve these looks with ease – I’m sure most of us would experiment with different looks a lot more if we had her resources and industry hookups.
I am loving the new more natural looking Nicki Minaj – although I will always have a soft spot in my heart for her colourful wigs and chicken wing necklace. Somehow I don’t think going natural means ditching her love for the colour pink though!

Nicki Minaj “Pink Pill”
Coinciding with this image change comes her collaboration with electronic audio company Beats By Dre. Nicki Minaj joins the long list of celebrities who have partnered with Beats By Dre to create their own audio products including Lebron James, Lady Gaga, Diddy and Justin Beiber.
Minaj has “put her name to the “Pink Pill,” a travel-sized speaker that plugs into your mobile device or mp3 device.
Queen Barb released this statement about the product:
“I am so excited about this product. It’s something I actually use. It’s a little tiny speaker that I can travel with yet the sound is incredibly loud and rich. I knew the barbz would not only love it, but that they’d want it in pink! So, here ya go barbz!!!! My PINK PILL!” -The305
The “Pink Pill” retails for $199 USD and can be purchased at Beats By Dre stockists.
What do you think of the new toned down Nicki Minaj? Will you be buying the “Pink Pill?”
